Lauri Thekchok Shedrupling Monastery

Lauri Thekchok Shedrupling is a monastery located in the eastern region of Bhutan, under the Samdrup Jongkhar district, Lauri Gewog. It is a nonprofit organization and was established in the year 1965, on the 10th day of the 2nd lunar month, by the late Lama Tshewang. The monastery served the local lay and monastic community through the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and, specifically, that of the revelations of Terton Pema Lingpa. Trulku Sonam Penjor further expanded Shedrupling Monastery, after the late Lama Tshewang had passed on, until 2005.

At present, the monastery has been entrusted under the care of Trulku Tandin Jamstho, who dedicates and commits to taking on all the roles and responsibilities in relation to the continued development of the monastery, in addition to improving the welfare of the monks. Since the size of the Lhakhang (prayer hall) was limited, there are spatial constraints in the carrying out of religious activities. Thus, in 2017, Trulku Tandin Jamtsho started the construction project of the prayer hall. At the same time, the number of monks has significantly increased from 2019. In general, Trulku possesses far-sighted mission and vision of benefitting all sentient beings on top of taking care of the local community. These include improving of the infrastructures and facilities for monks, pilgrims, and retreaters. However, the location of the monastery and impact resulting from the recent pandemic have impaired upon the progress of the project. Trulku, nevertheless, has persevered on.
